Dr Lochan practiced in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology prior to obtaining her specialist degree in Medical Genetics and her Masters of Medicine degree through the University of the Witwatersrand. She consults in the state and private sector providing a clinical and counselling genetics service. She is actively involved in teaching and training medical genetics at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and holds a joint appointment as a lecturer at the Division of Human Genetics and University of the Witwatersrand. She conducts research aimed at understanding the molecular basis of genetic disease in South Africa.
