I finished my secondary education at Saint George's College in Harare Zimbabwe (1981). My first step in tertiary education was the completion of MBChB in the University of Zimbabwe (1986). This was followed by a compulsory two years horsemanship, completed in the academic hospitals of Bulawayo and Harare.In those days training required the completion of a five year secondment in the rural areas of Zimbabwe; Guruve district in Central Mashonaland is where I was sent, and worked at Mvurwe District Hospital up to the post of District Medical Officer (1989). By then it was clear to me that I wanted to do surgery, so, after a brief table job in the Anatomy Department in Harare I started surgical training in the University of Witwatersrand, receiving my FCS SA in 1996. I was fortunate enough to have the mentorship of Professor GJ Oettle, receiving a two year fellowship training as a Colorectal Surgeon. Financial pressures saw me move into private practice, this included working in the Trauma Unit at Milpark Hopital and the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
In 2007 I was invited to The Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. The hospital board has strived to develop and an academic presence in private; within this endeavour I was privileged to initiate the hospital's colorectal surgical offering. Through training of surgical registrars and colorectal fellows the Colorectal Unit as a team has helped grow the colorectal presence in the whole academic complex of the Wits University.

I am a trained abdominal transplant surgeon involved in both liver and kidney transplantation from deceased and living donors. In our transplant unit, we transplant both adults and children.
