Welcome to the Colorectal Unit, a dedicated clinical and academic service focused on diagnosis, treatment, surgery, research and training for colorectal diseases.
Located at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre, it forms part of the hospital’s multi-disciplinary surgical and specialist care environment. As the colorectal unit, we believe that optimal care is not just about treating disease but about empowering patients and their families through shared decision-making, compassion and respect.
Through mentorship, hands-on experience and a collaborative multi-disciplinary model, we are equipping young surgeons, fellows and registrars with the skills they need to become experts in the field of colorectal surgery.
The colorectal unit manages the full spectrum of colorectal disorders including:
- Colorectal cancer diagnosis and surgical treatment
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Diverticular disease
- Anal and Perianal Conditions
- Faecal incontinence, and constipation
- Advanced rectal polyps and proctological conditions
- Laparoscopic and advanced open colorectal surgery
