Bilal Bobat is a Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist at the Liver Unit at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. He is affiliated as a lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand, Department of Internal Medicine. He is an examiner for the undergraduate MBBCH program and for the College of Medicine of South Africa Certificate in Hepatology. He has a research interest in Autoimmune liver diseases specifically Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis which is the focus of his Phd. Dr Bobat is a regional committee member of the International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL), A regional lead for the THINK collaborative, a global network of transplant hepatologists affiliated to the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) and belongs to the International PSC study group and International Autoimmune Hepatitis Working group. Locally, he is serving on the executive of the South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES) and is a trustee of the Gastroenterology Foundation, an organisation focused on training and improving the quality of gastroenterology and hepatology care in the country.
