She subsequently completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Centre and fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Pennsylvania, both in the United States. Prof. Wade is an active researcher with over 60 peer-reviewed publications. She received an Emerging Global Leader award from the National Institute of Health in the United States to support her research into endocrine and metabolic diseases in lower and middle income countries. In her clinical practice she sees patients with all types of endocrine disorders and focuses on delivering patient-centred care.

Dr. India Butler is one of very few registered Geriatricians in South Africa. Geriatric Medicine is the holistic treatment of older people and is a highly specialised medical discipline. It includes the management of the acute medical illnesses and chronic conditions as well as perioperative issues that affect the elderly. Prevention of illness or disability and health promotion are another important component. Dr. Butler qualified with her MBChB at the University of Cape Town in 2004 and achieved her Fellowship of the College of Physicians in 2011 at the University of the Witwatersrand. Dr. Butler then spent a further 2 years training as a Sub-specialist Geriatrician with the assistance of a Discovery Foundation Award, dividing her training between Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and Helen Joseph Hospital – the only training sites in Gauteng. I am a specialist colorectal surgeon in independant private practice. Since 2010 I have been involved in the establishment of the WDGMC Colorectal Unit. Our aim as a private training unit, is to train the next generation of specialist colorectal surgeons. I oversee the training of at least 1 full time fellow, as well as a registrar from the Wits Department of Surgery. In addition to our regular patient consultation and surgical lists, we attend a weekly Oncology MDT meeting where we discuss indiviudal patients to reach a group consensus regarding the treatment best suited to their diagnosis. We host a monthly pelvic floor MDT meeting together with gynaecologists, urologists, radiologists, physiotherapists & psychologists to discuss patients who present with complex pelvic floor disorders, and decide upon the best treatment approach. I am an active member of the executive committee SACRS (South African Colorectal Society).

Working mainly in the field of health and disease, he competed a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychosocial intervention in End-of-Life and Bereavement care, through the University of the Northwest (2019). He has a passion for therapy, patient stories and exploring ways of how best to live life despite an adverse medical diagnosis.

I completed a BSc at Wits (1996) and then went on to qualify with a BSc ( Medical Honours) in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Cape Town in 1998. I am passionate about nutrition and the positive role it can play in optimizing health and well-being. I am a certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor and use a non-diet approach when I counsel. BSc Dietetics (NWU)
Inge van der Walt qualified with a degree in BSc Dietetics in 2009 from the North West University (Potchefstoom). She joined the team at Wits Donald Gordon in 2012 with a special interest in liver and kidney disease and nutrition in oncology. Inge supports transplant patients through the transplant journey to ensure that they are nutritionally fit for transplant. Inge has an interest in the nutrition of geriatric patients and management of dysphagia and feeding tubes (PEG). She is experienced in nutritional support (TPN and enteral nutrition). She is passionate about nutrition and how the correct nutrients at the right time can improve quality of life and outcome in disease.

Established practice at WDGMC in 2008. Involved at the Liver Transplant Clinic and Kidney Stone Clinic and consults in the Oncology unit, Dialysis unit and Medical ward. Currently involved in a research project at Wits Clinical Research.
Registered Dietitian (B.Sc Hons, Dietetics. NWU)
I obtained my B. Sc Dietetics (Hons) in 2000, after which I worked as a clinical dietician in the United Kingdom for 12 years. On my return to South Africa, I joined the team at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. My main areas of interest are providing nutritional therapy to patients in the Critical Care setting, optimising nutritional status before intestinal surgery and educating on dietary adjustments after surgery. I have a special interest in the nutritional management of high output ileostomies and intestinal failures (Short Bowel Syndrome) patients. I also consult on other gastro-intestinal conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease and constipation, as well as conditions like diabetes and obesity.

I am a physiotherapist practicing at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. I graduated from University of the Witwatersrand in 2009. I have gained vast experience working in both the public and private sector. I run both and inpatient and out patient practice, as well as a mobile practice for Johannesburg based patients who require treatment at home. I have completed several post-graduate courses over the years in order to expand my services and grow my skills as a physiotherapist.
