After completing internship and community service I worked in the United Kingdom for two years rotating through oncology, haematology and palliative care units throughout the country. It was here that my passion for oncology was fueled. I returned to South Africa and completed specialisation in clinical oncology at the University of Cape Town, obtaining my FC Rad Onc fellowship in 2011. My main aim is to provide a holistic, caring, efficient and professional service to all my cancer patients and their families. I aim to do this by providing highly individualised care and management and keeping abreast of current national and international standards of care. I hope to always play a positive role in the management and lives of cancer patients.

I am an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon in full time Private Practice. My special interests include developing the Cochlear Implant Programme at WDGMC as we also are home to the Johannesburg Cochlear Implant Centre. I am an operating surgeon for the 94.7 Hear for Life Foundation where these surgeries are performed on indigent patients free of charge. Paediatric Airway Surgery and Endolaryngeal Surgery are also performed regularly as is Sinus Surgery.

Dr Janice Spinks is a colorectal surgeon. She completed her undergraduate and general surgical training at the University of the Witwatersrand and went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Gastroenterology with a special interest in colorectal surgery. Dr Spinks has recently joined the WDGMC Colorectal Unit. She has a special interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery for cancer. She is a member of the South African Colorectal Society.

A female colorectal surgeon currently working at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre(WDGMC). Dr Harran is a graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, where she completed her undergraduate and general surgical training, as well as a sub-specialty fellowship in GIT surgery with a special interest in colorectal surgery. Prestigious fellowships include three months at Academisch Medisch Centrum in the Netherlands and two weeks at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS in the United Kingdom. Dr. Harran works as part of the WDGMC colorectal team and has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery. Her research includes evaluation of new techniques in the treatment of fecal incontinence.

I am a specialist colorectal surgeon in independant private practice. Since 2010 I have been involved in the establishment of the WDGMC Colorectal Unit. Our aim as a private training unit, is to train the next generation of specialist colorectal surgeons. I oversee the training of at least 1 full time fellow, as well as a registrar from the Wits Department of Surgery. In addition to our regular patient consultation and surgical lists, we attend a weekly Oncology MDT meeting where we discuss indiviudal patients to reach a group consensus regarding the treatment best suited to their diagnosis. We host a monthly pelvic floor MDT meeting together with gynaecologists, urologists, radiologists, physiotherapists & psychologists to discuss patients who present with complex pelvic floor disorders, and decide upon the best treatment approach. I am an active member of the executive committee SACRS (South African Colorectal Society).

Dr Tunmer is a Specialist Radiation Oncologist practicing at the WITS University Donald Gordon Medical Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa. She completed her undergraduate medical training at The University of Pretoria. Following internship and community service Dr Tunmer worked as a medical officer at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, rotating through the Trauma Unit, Trauma ICU and Medical Casualty.

Zamo Mbele is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Consultant in Johannesburg, South Africa. With a decade’s worth of clinical experience, he has practiced as a senior psychotherapist and served as a senior supervisor at Tara H. Moross Hospital and the WITS Donald Gordon Medical Centre. Zamo has worked in both the private and public sectors of South Africa’s mental health services, accumulating extensive experience in the South African public mental health space. He has served as a clinician and in advisory capacities, providing expertise to governance structures and policy-making processes, among other roles. He also lectures for the South African Psychoanalytic Initiative Psychotherapy College and is currently a candidate psychoanalyst with the South African Psychoanalytic Association.

Duvern Ramiah is the Head of Radiation Oncology at the University of the Witwatersrand and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital where he sits on various committees including the hospital research committee. He has a private practice at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre.

Dr. Berenice Christian is a specialist Rheumatologist. She completed her fellowship in Rheumatology in 1997, after qualifying as a Physician in Internal Medicine. Rheumatology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine and paediatrics, devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases involving joints, soft tissue, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis and heritable connective tissue disorders. A large percentage of Dr. Christian’s practice is treating arthritis, but she consults on the full spectrum of Rheumatological conditions. She also lectures on the subject.

Dr. Joyce Ziki is a specialist Rheumatologist whose career began in Zimbabwe where she obtained her MBChB degree, completed internship and community service. In 2012 she obtained her specialist qualifications from the University of Witwatersrand and the College of medicine SA. She subsequently joined Tembisa hospital in, South Africa as a specialist physician from where she returned to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg hospital for further training in rheumatic diseases. In 2018 she qualified as a Rheumatologist.

Karyn Casey is a Speech-Language Pathologist in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her work combines running a multidisciplinary private practice, a teaching appointment at the University of the Witwatersrand, and delivering a range of training workshops for ICU staff, care facilities and fellow rehabilitation professionals. Karyn also works within a community- based brain injury rehabilitation program. Working mainly in the field of health and disease, he competed a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychosocial intervention in End-of-Life and Bereavement care, through the University of the Northwest (2019). Inge van der Walt qualified with a degree in BSc Dietetics in 2009 from the North West University (Potchefstoom). She joined the team at Wits Donald Gordon in 2012 with a special interest in liver and kidney disease and nutrition in oncology. Inge supports transplant patients through the transplant journey to ensure that they are nutritionally fit for transplant. Inge has an interest in the nutrition of geriatric patients and management of dysphagia and feeding tubes (PEG). She is experienced in nutritional support (TPN and enteral nutrition). She is passionate about nutrition and how the correct nutrients at the right time can improve quality of life and outcome in disease.

Registered Dietitian (B.Sc Hons, Dietetics. NWU)

I obtained my B. Sc Dietetics (Hons) in 2000, after which I worked as a clinical dietician in the United Kingdom for 12 years. On my return to South Africa, I joined the team at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. My main areas of interest are providing nutritional therapy to patients in the Critical Care setting, optimising nutritional status before intestinal surgery and educating on dietary adjustments after surgery. I have a special interest in the nutritional management of high output ileostomies and intestinal failures (Short Bowel Syndrome) patients. I also consult on other gastro-intestinal conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease and constipation, as well as conditions like diabetes and obesity.

I am a physiotherapist practicing at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre. I graduated from University of the Witwatersrand in 2009. I have gained vast experience working in both the public and private sector. I run both and inpatient and out patient practice, as well as a mobile practice for Johannesburg based patients who require treatment at home. I have completed several post-graduate courses over the years in order to expand my services and grow my skills as a physiotherapist.
