Dr Verwey established and runs the paediatric pulmonology unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. He is the first elected Head of Division: Paediatric Pulmonology at the University of the Witwatersrand Faculty of Health Sciences. He completed his PhD investigating the long-term sequelae of viral infections on the developing lung of the child and has over 40 research articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is on the executive councils of the South African Thoracic Society, the National Asthma Education Programme and the Pan-African Thoracic Society. He is happy when he is on his bicycle or spending time at home with his family.
